Iron ore goes through a lot of stages before it reaches the blast furnace, and then is made into steel, whichever grade needed, depending upon the percentage of additives and carbon. The flow process shown at the upper section of the page depicts the incremental sizing and seperation of Iron ore, from ROM( run of mine) size to desirable size( below 80 mm).
After the successful completion of the above process, an Iron ore mine ships off the final iron ore of the desirable size to steel plants. Depending upon the capacity of a plant, the amount of Iron ore is put together and stacked at the respective steel plant's stock house.
An integrated steel plant has its own mine and is independent when it comes to raw material procurement all the way to final steel girders or sheets, of different grades.
